APAFS kicks off first of 2009 Country Conference series in Pohnpei, FSM
Asia Pacific Association for Fiduciary Studies (APAFS), the premier non-profit association for fiduciary education, sets its 2009 Country Conferences series in motion, beginning with Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia.
Slated to be held on February 24, 2009, the Country Conference on Pohnpei will be the first of APAFS’ regional conferences and will shed light on global and local finance issues. Similar conferences will be held during the year on Majuro, Chuuk, Saipan, Guam, Yap and Palau.
“APAFS aims to provide a holistic perspective on the current state of global economies, complemented by observations of regional trends. We want to equip fiduciaries and investment professionals with knowledge that can help them in their planning and decision-making for the year 2009,” says Executive Director of APAFS, Daniel Roland, CIMA.
APAFS instructor, Jason B. Miyashita, CRPS, AIF will share facts and insights in his talk, “Financial Crisis on a Global Scale” while APAFS Chairman, Gerard Cruz, updates attendees on the current status of APAFS.
Regional and local economic issues will also be highlighted in the conference. President of ASC Trust Corp., David John, will tackle the topic “The Effect of the Economic Crisis on Retirement Plans in the Region.” The outlook for the U.S. domestic equity markets will be discussed by Jim Staub, SVP of Atalanta Sosnoff Capital Management and Jonathan Cangalosa, SVP of Golden Asset Management. The outlook for the global bond markets will be addressed by Bill Kalra of Payden & Rygel Asset Management.
Around 75 individuals representing public funds, endowments and foundations, as well as local and national leaders are expected to take part in the Country Conference. The 2009 Country Conference series will lead up to the Annual Pacific Region Investment Conference, which will be held in Manila, Philippines.
